Our partnership with Hastings Direct and Leicestershire County Council has given the Powering Up Project the opportunity to deliver projects aimed at improving outcomes for care experienced parents and their children. Parents and their children attended an activity to Windmill farm where they had the opportunity to spend time with other parents and children, and animals outside in green spaces.
So What?
The supports systems and peer networks for many young people with care experience can be limited. In terms of parenting, when times get tough and you are looking for support it can be difficult to navigate without the supports systems that many people possess. Our aim is to create peer networks and break down some of the barriers to accessing support by providing relevant information to young people to help them navigate the challenges that parenting can present.
It was great to see the young people supporting each other and that they had been able to build a relationship away from the group.

Now What?
We will continue are partnership with Leicestershire County Council and we are looking forward to an Easter egg hunt with parents and children in April. We are really keen to share some learning relating to the experiences of parents with care experience and are looking forward to hosting a podcast in the near future to probe what has worked well and how services could be improved to support parents with care experience across health and social care.
