Violence Intervention Project Update Q2 2024

25 Jan 2024

During this quarter, we delivered a budgeting session in collaboration with HRBS. The purpose of this session was to equip participants with a better understanding of how to manage their finances. The session focussed on budgeting and participants were shown how they could choose to make decisions on where to shop and how to delay gratification until a later date. Participants were also educated about how to use credit including credit cards. They were advised to think about the usage of credit cards and consider the interest rate and debt which could be accrued.

We also delivered a work tour in collaboration with Hastings Direct. This event was designed to provide participants with insight into the workplace. The session commenced with an employability session where participants were provided with commonly asked questions and given an opportunity to prepare answers to such questions. The facilitator proceeded to conduct a mock interview and provided feedback on how their responses could be improved. The session concluded with a work tour which participants found both inspiring and insightful.

We had several one-to-one sessions this quarter all with the aim to enable participants reach their highest potential. Our Power to change approach is woven through sessions by providing person-centred interventions to enable participants attain more sustainable outcomes. In line with power within, we supported participants in identifying their immediate needs which include obtaining I.D and providing support with housing. The quarter ended with a Christmas movie at Odeon and a meal at Nando

Being a mutual Society with a real desire to share our knowledge and resources with our local communities can lead our people to take part in all manner of activities. This week was all about sharing our knowledge of finances and budgeting with a group of young people some of whom were care experienced people and others have been involved in the criminal justice system. This event was organised by our very good friends at our local charity Leicestershire Cares. We covered why budgeting is important, practical tips on how to do it, as well as dealing with credit and risks you can encounter from fraudsters.

In this quarter, we experienced various successes as we supported 8 participants in enabling them access education, employment, and training. In order to enable participants, improve their employability skills, we connected with Hastings and they facilitated a work tour and employability day.

  • 5 referrals received from Turning Point.
  • 20 referrals received from Phoenix Programme.
  • 8 YP continued from previous quarters.
  • 8 YP attained or continued in education, employment, and training.
  • 1 Work tour conducted.
  • 1 Budgeting event delivered.
  • 1 Christmas event facilitated.
  • 1 Prisoner well-being day delivered.
  • 1 podcast published.

It was a huge success, as it covered issues around budgeting and personal finances which is often overlooked by young people. The session was interactive, and participants were encouraged to think more deeply about their options when spending money to enable their finances to stretch further. They were also equipped with tools to facilitate budgeting and identify fraudsters. We are truly grateful to HRBS for providing such a thorough session. Our participants found it very useful
