Spring Champions lunch. A springboard for partnership and change

21 Mar 2025

It was great to gather with a cross section of our business champions, at the wonderful Nylacast PLC, meeting room on Thursday 20th March, to celebrate our work over the last six months and to share how we can continue to work in partnership to support young people and community groups.

The meeting started with Kieran our CEO, presenting our Star Champion Award to Denise Bradshaw, from Hinckley and Rugby Building Society, in recognition of the outstanding work she has done supporting her colleagues to volunteer on our projects. Staff then shared a variety of updates and opportunities with the business volunteers, which included calls for volunteers to support young people learning to read, support unaccompanied asylum seeking young men to play football on a Wednesday evening and volunteer on a city centre youth music project.

We also put out a final call for our Easter Egg campaign, where local businesses donate Easter Eggs, which are given to children in need over the Easter Period

Our care experienced young people team , shared the “Change the Script” video made by care experienced young people which highlighted issues they face and how they need to be supported . It made people realise the challenges they face and how they had to face a lot of struggles and sadly discrimination. This is an area we are committed to working on and are looking into how business partners can offer more support and opportunities to these young people by linking up with public sector and community partners.

We all celebrated the tremendous efforts our business volunteers had put into collecting almost 1100 #BagsOfHope that were distributed to people in need across our city and county over the Christmas period.

Partnering with Leicestershire Cares, is great for our colleagues, it gives us so many opportunities to engage with and give back to the community

Denise Bradshaw HRBS

Over the last six months we have continued to support thousands of young people in schools, community groups and neighbourhoods, strengthened the capacity of community groups delivering vital services and this is only possible, because of the efforts of the hundreds of business volunteers who have engaged in our projects, so a huge thank you to all of you and your colleagues

Kieran Breen CEO Leicestershire Cares

We ended the meeting, discussing how we might work together to organise a social fundraising event, to raise much needed funds for the vital work we do.

Leicestershire Cares does such great work I would be happy to partner with other champions and your staff to organise a fundraising social event, to raise funds for your much needed work. It would also be great to get an opportunity to socialise with other champions and teams

Ian Mallabone Nylacast PLC

We are looking forward to taking this work forward over the next year and as always, we know when people are prepared to work in “creative and agile partnerships, without ego, silo or logo”, great things are possible.
