The Peace and Love Festival, held in Leicester city centre outside Primark and the Haymarket shopping centre, was a vibrant celebration of unity, culture, and community. The event brought together people from all levels of society to enjoy a day filled with music, food, and festivities.
Musical Performance
The festival featured an impressive line-up of musicians who set the stage ablaze with their performances. From soulful reggae beats to energetic Afrobeat rhythms, the music resonated with the spirit of peace and love. Local bands graced the stage, creating an atmosphere of joy and togetherness. With the Power to Change projects content creator group taking the top spot and performing as a group for the first time, also with two of the group members performing for the first time live Infront of a crowd which can be very intimidating. Not only that, they were asked by the crowd to perform their group track (We Good) not only once more but in total performed were asked to perform the track three times at different intervals during the festival.
The young people involved in the Power to change project have come many different walks of life but to see them work together to achieve a common goal is wonderful to witness.
A Culinary Journey
One of the highlights of the festival was the diverse array of food stalls offering delicious Ghanaian cuisine. Attendees savoured traditional dishes such as jollof rice, waakye, and kelewele, each bite a testament to the rich culinary heritage of Ghana. The aroma of spices filled the air, drawing festivalgoers to the vibrant food area.
Jamaican Merchandise Galore
Adding to the cultural tapestry of the event was the abundance of Jamaican merchandise. From colourful Rastafarian hats to handcrafted jewellery and vibrant clothing, the stalls were a treasure trove of unique items. Festivalgoers eagerly browsed through the merchandise, taking home a piece of Jamaican culture.
Capturing the Moments
Godwin and Susan, two of the Power to change participants who through the power to change content creators group have become two talented photographers, and were on hand to capture the essence of the festival. "Their cameras clicked away non-stop", immortalizing the smiles, dances, and heartfelt moments shared by attendees. Their photographs beautifully encapsulated the spirit of the event, ensuring that the memories would be cherished for years to come.
Post-Festival Feast
After the festivities, the Power to change project group decided to continue the celebration by heading out for a meal. As the group gathered at a local restaurant, sharing stories and laughter over a delicious spread of food. It was the perfect way to end a day dedicated to peace, love, and community. The Peace and Love Festival was more than just an event, it was a testament to the power of unity and the beauty of cultural diversity. Through music, food, and shared experiences, it brought people together in a celebration of what truly matters peace and love.
