This Tuesday, the Community Development Team joined a team of volunteers from Stepnell Ltd. for a Team Challenge at the Adhar Project in Leicester City.
The Adhar Project is a charity that provides community support services to people who are suffering from mental health difficulties, primarily (though not exclusively) from members of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups in Leicester City. In order to improve the self-confidence of service users and ensure that their needs are met, the Adhar Project offers a variety of services including an advocacy project, therapeutic activities, support groups, 1-2-1 sessions, volunteering opportunities, employment support, a domestic abuse project, and more.
The impact that this work Stepnell Ltd. have done is going to be really great: it gives the downstairs meeting room a really warm, welcoming feeling, and our building now has more presence in the community, making it easier to identify for people looking to access our services. Thank you to the Leicestershire Cares Community Development Team and to Stepnell Ltd. for doing this amazing Team Challenge at the Adhar Project.
Rana Rajput, Team Leader at the Adhar Project
A central downstairs meeting room at the Adhar Project building – used for mental health and wellbeing sessions and workshops – was recently hit with water damage from heavy rain, discolouring the walls and causing stains.
The Stepnell volunteers have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge! The team of twelve worked extremely hard and achieved a tremendous amount. The new communal areas will make a big impact on the service users who come to the centre regularly. We hope the spaces will provide an area in which to relax and enjoy the activities at the centre. We’re delighted to be able to give something back to the local community in this way through our long-standing partnership with Leicestershire Cares.
Louise Bilbie, Team Challenge Leader from Stepnell Ltd.
Volunteers from Stepnell Ltd. generously gave their time to repainting the entire room – walls, ceiling, and all – in some wonderful new shades of glossy eggshell white and soothing lilac purple.
Not only that, but the team also repainted the Adhar Project building’s exterior in the same lilac, giving the building a fresh and very distinctive appearance that will help it stand out to new service-users unfamiliar with the area.
Louise and her team were fantastic on this Team Challenge! They did an excellent job repainting the rooms and outer walls of the Adhar Project site, and the entire building really benefits from the new splashes of colour. I know everyone at the centre really appreciates all the hard work that the Stepnell team did, and that their hard work has made a big difference. Thank you so much to Louise and everyone at Stepnell Ltd.!
Neetu Squire, Head of Community Development at Leicestershire Cares
With morale kept high by some delicious pizza and samosas graciously ordered in by the Adhar Project for lunch, the Stepnell Ltd. team completed their makeover of the meeting room and building exterior by the early afternoon. Just in time for some terrific high-quality pictures of the final outcome, taken by a professional photographer!
The Community Development Team are looking forward to building future partnerships with businesses in order to support community groups that deliver vital services throughout Leicestershire. We would like to take the time to express our enormous gratitude to all our business partners whose generous support enables us to develop projects that build a safer, more inclusive Leicestershire where no one is left behind.
