We’re so proud of our Education Development Officer, Fiona Spence-Arnold who has her debut book for children published by HoneyCraft.org.
Fiona’s been writing for children for many years and was thrilled to be commissioned earlier this year to write a book for children aged 8 – 10. Part funded by the National Forest, the story is about a butterfly and moth who go on an unforgettable adventure into the heart of the forest.
I love forests, nature and writing books for children, so it’s a dream come true to have the opportunity to write a book set in the National Forest. It’s a chance to engage, entertain and inform children about brilliant butterflies and moths, and the habitats they live in. I hope to spark creative ideas, engagement with nature and encourage a love of forests so the next generation will help them thrive for years to come.

HoneyCraft.org are a small independent publisher based in Leicester who publish books aimed at connecting children to nature. For more info on the project see this article:
The book was launched at Timber Festival last weekend with Fiona, illustrator, Keith Turner and Entomologist, Graham Smith who advised on the butterfly and moths on the project. Children had fun making collage butterfly wings, composing Verse on the Wing poetry and joining in with guided butterfly and moth walks, during which Fiona read extracts from the book.
With plans for workshops and readings in schools, Fox Books and libraries, look out for more events in the coming weeks.
