Moneywise living - Benefits & Energy Outreach

30 Jan 2025

This month, I have had the privilege of attending two newly established clinics at the Peace Centre and the Peepul Centre, also known as the As-Salaam Trust. These clinics have provided me with an invaluable opportunity to engage with and assist individuals from a wide range of religious, ethnic, and age groups. It has been particularly rewarding to extend my services to new areas within Leicester, thereby reaching communities that may not have had access to such support previously.

The clinic at the Peepul Centre is set to operate until March, while the Peace Centre clinic will continue to run indefinitely, ensuring ongoing support for those in need. Through these clinics, I have been offering expert guidance on a variety of crucial matters, including benefits, housing, and energy efficiency. Additionally, I have been distributing complimentary LED bulbs to attendees and providing tailored advice on energy-saving measures, helping individuals and families to reduce their utility costs and improve household sustainability.

As the winter months progress, we are eagerly preparing to distribute winter warmth packs to participants. These packs will contain essential items designed to help vulnerable individuals stay warm and comfortable during the colder season. Our efforts aim to alleviate fuel poverty and ensure that no one in our community is left struggling due to the rising costs of energy.

Beyond these practical services, I have also had the opportunity to listen to the concerns and challenges faced by those who visit the clinics. Many individuals have expressed difficulties in navigating complex benefit systems, securing stable housing, or managing their household expenses. By offering clear, professional advice and a compassionate ear, I hope to empower people with the knowledge and resources they need to improve their quality of life.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to expanding our outreach and strengthening the support networks available within Leicester. By collaborating with local organisations and community groups, we strive to build a more resilient, informed, and self-sufficient community where individuals feel supported and valued.

I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to be part of this initiative and look forward to continuing to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

We was not sure what benefits we were entitled to but with the help of Leicestershire Cares we are now fully aware.
