Our October half-term empowerment group for young women was a truly impactful session, featuring an arts and crafts workshop led by Victoria Demery from the University of Leicester. This session centred around creating vision boards, a powerful tool used to help individuals clarify, visualise, and pursue their dreams and goals. Vision boards allow people to express their aspirations in a tangible way, providing a visual reminder of their ambitions and encouraging them to stay focused and motivated over time.
It made me think of things I am struggling with and helped me with how I can improve!

The session invited the young women to look forward to the next 12 months, envisioning their personal and academic goals for the upcoming year. Through this creative exercise, each participant had the opportunity to reflect on where they are now and where they want to be a year from today. Vision boards can serve as a source of daily inspiration and have a profound positive impact on one’s mindset, helping individuals develop self-awareness and confidence while fostering resilience against challenges. By visualising their future, these young women could start to believe in the possibilities within reach and understand that they are fully capable of achieving what they set out to accomplish.
All twelve participants found the session engaging and inspiring. For many, it was a chance to “dream big” and consider new possibilities, realising that the world truly is their oyster. They left the session empowered, knowing that their goals, whether big or small, are valid and attainable with the right mindset and effort.
We were also joined by Sue from Stepnell and Jenny from Everards, two of our Empowered Business Champions, who contributed to the lively discussion and connected with the young women. Their presence underscored the value of community support and mentorship, showing the participants that there are people in their corner, ready to encourage them as they pursue their dreams.
What is most amazing is the opportunity to see these young women develop over time and increase in confidence. I did a mock interview with one last year and she she couldn’t look me in the eye or say anything about herself. Now she happily chats about her voluntary work for an animal charity.

Overall, the session was a remarkable success, focusing on individual dreams and personal growth. It offered a space where each young woman could visualise her potential, set meaningful goals, and feel inspired to take steps towards her vision of the future.
The empowerment group is on the rise, uniting a vibrant and diverse group of young women who are forging strong connections and discovering incredible insights about themselves and each other. Empowering themselves and other young women!
Don't miss out on the next session and keep an eye out for the upcoming poster and schedule details!
