With students no longer learning at home we are once more able to broker remote relationships between our member businesses and schools to support students with their employability skills. Since the reopening of schools in September 2020 we have delivered 6 remote interview technique events with 4 schools, resulting in just over 500 year 11 students receiving a remote interview and valuable feedback from our committed business volunteers. The Great Pirate Treasure Hunt Maths Challenge!
With primary schools unable to allow visitors, we are still delivering our maths Number Partners but as a series of themed maths challenges. Volunteers from HRBS have recorded videos to accompany the challenges. These fun videos really bring them to life and can be found on our Youtube channel. Hinckley and Rugby Building Society are also kindly donating towards prizes for the winning school. See link to website article.
Speedy Speaker Employability Webinars
Our partner schools are continuing to use the recordings of our 5 live webinars that we delivered in the summer. These were made in collaboration with business volunteers from Knights Solicitors, Lloyds Banking Group, Everards Brewery, Rock Kitchen Harris, Thermo Fisher Scientific, TT Electronics, Alltruck and Bowmer and Kirkland construction. We now have over 570 views on our YouTube channel since they were shared in May.
Virtual Employability Resource Packs
In conjunction with our business members from Thermo Fisher Scientific, Joules and Rock Kitchen Harris, we have also developed a virtual employability resource pack on writing CVs, cover letters and interview skills. The volunteers recorded short talks on how to create CVs, cover letters and how to succeed at interviews to help them to prepare for their remote mock interviews. See link
Employability videos
We’ve also developed a series of Speedy speaker videos as part of an Employability careers package for schools. As an alternative to visiting the school our business volunteers have recorded themselves talking about their roles, how they started their jobs, what they like about them and tips for entering their kind of jobs. In September we were able to deliver prizes and certificates to winners and runners up of our careers competition, that we launched earlier this year, in order to keep students engaged in careers education whilst learning at home. Click on this link to see winners being presented with their prizes.
Thank you to our business volunteers and schools who have adapted to our new way of delivering our education projects and helped to support students in Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland to learn new skills.
