The Education Team had a busy Autumn term organising and delivering successful interview technique events, employability events and workshops both in schools and remotely
The Education Team had a busy Autumn term organising and delivering successful events in schools in the county and city. We have signed up three new schools: Newbridge, Castle Rock and Ibstock. At the end of the term, we sadly had to say goodbye to Helen, our Education Development Manager, who has moved on to a new role with the LLEP, but we were happy to welcome our new Project Support Officer, Muskan into her role in November.
Our work funded by LLEP working with special schools continues to blossom. Our work with SEND schools article
We were excited and humbled to win the East Midlands Chambers Education Business partnership award in November which is testament to the excellent links and partnerships with business that we’ve developed. Humbled and honoured to pick up two awards at the East Midlands Chambers Business awards | Leicestershire Cares
Interview technique
Our interview technique sessions continue to be successful and popular amongst volunteers. We’ve delivered 5 events with 4 schools. Across these 5 events almost 730 students were supported by 56 volunteers.
I particularly enjoyed being face to face with students, it feels far more personal than remote communication. The students were nervous, but I enjoyed seeing them grow in confidence as the interview progressed. I felt I was able to give useful hints and tips
Volunteer
Thank you so much for giving up your time during these busy times to enable our students to experience an actual interview - albeit virtually. The students have given me some great feedback about the event - telling me how worthwhile they felt the process was. They have spoken about how kind, considerate and helpful the volunteers were. You have made a cohort of young people feel more confident about attending interviews and stepping out of their comfort zone - thank you!.

Employability
We held 2 employability sessions in schools - a speedy speaker careers talk event and a CV workshop. We recruited 6 volunteers from different businesses such as Hinckley and Rugby Building Society, Nelsons Law and Leicester City Council. Both of these employability sessions were online via TEAMS engaging with 605 young students.
Go for Reading
We currently have 6 volunteers who have continued weekly Go For Reading sessions in 2 secondary schools, achieving a brilliant 60 hours of volunteering between them last term.
Number Partners
A young participant from Leicestershire Cares’ Powering Up project continues to volunteer as a Number Partner in a city primary school for weekly half hour sessions playing maths games with young children.
Our business partners
Since October we have recruited volunteers from the following businesses and would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of the volunteers and companies. We could not do this valuable work without you!
