At Leicestershire Cares we were pleased that we could come together with our young people, business and community partners to celebrate women and their achievements.
In the morning we hosted a virtual event with females from our business and community partner organisations. The event kicked off with a quick bingo game with an IWD twist to help us recognise and learn about inspiring women such as Alyssa Carson, Greta Thunberg and Amika George. Deana from TH!NK FC then shared some tools to promote mindfulness and positive thinking which we can share with staff and participants. We ended the event by breaking off into break out rooms to discuss issues affecting women during the pandemic and what will we #ChooseToChallenge. For example, calling out biases and stereotypes in a constructive manner and changing mindsets and self-identify in a way that is empowering.
In the afternoon we ran a session with the young women we worked with and kicked off the session with Bingo. We then heard from Tanisa, a young person on the Making Moves Project, about how she survived some hard and difficult times and through sheer determination and support has she set up her own organic candle business called MamaZuri Candles. During this session we encouraged our young women to create vision boards of the goals they hope to achieve in the next year. Thank you to The Curator - Educator for kindly donating 15 craft boxes for our young people to create their vision boards.
We really enjoyed celebrating IWD and are proud and inspired to work with so many wonderful, creative and committed women and girls who are striving to create a better world for all. We will continue to #ChooseToChallenge to help forge an equal world!
