It really was the perfect Instagram-able experience!
Kym Youth worker Leicestershire Cares
The PUP team at Leicestershire Cares continue to support the Local Authority personal advisers with their leaving care parents group. The group has grown over the last year, and now offers monthly group sessions, alongside our day trips and social activities.
A common theme we found with our leaving care parents group, was how difficult celebrating Mother’s Day felt for many members. The double edge sword of wanting to celebrate their own journeys as mums, whilst being reminded of their own, often negative, relationships with their mums. It also became apparent that many of the group are capturing their children’s memories of days out and activities, however, have few photos of themselves sharing these experiences. In recognition of this, we held a Mother’s Day photo shoot, complete with afternoon tea to celebrate our leaving care mums.
The day was a real team effort, decorating our warehouse space, organising a delicious afternoon tea and creating a busy crafting table for those wonderful handmade Mother's day cards. Aaron and 2 very talented young people from our own content creators group, Power to Change project, were busy capturing the afternoon for us with some stunning photography.
Thank you to Emma Coleman and Jemma Wade for your ongoing collaboration with the leaving care group and the support this allows us to offer these leaving care parents. We must also extend thanks to Esmee Fairbairn, for supporting the work that we do and making all this possible.
It has been lovely today, a real treat. I can't wait to see the photos
