Autumn into Winter – Our Leaving Care Work

21 Jan 2022

The different members of staff we spoke to, were all passionate about Everards values. Keeping it local, family run, investing in their staff and local community. It made me think about the type of company I’d like to work for, and it would be one where the staff believe in the work they are doing and are passionate about it.

Care Experienced Young Person - World of Work Tour

As the season’s colours changed to oranges, reds and golds, our Leaving Care work continued to support care experienced young people to find their voice, find stability, discover self-respect and feed into the government’s commitment to review the children’s social care system to make sure children and young people get the support they need.

We celebrated our amazing care experienced young people during National Care Leavers Week, and featured on ITV, we expressed ourselves through graffiti, presented our ideas of how to connect businesses with care experienced young people at the Culture Cares Conference, and launched our new Promise to Care Toolkit.

We also carried on supporting care experienced young people to deal with isolation by building peer to peer support, helped them look for work, training and education and supported them to have their voices heard about the issues affecting them.

Launching our Promise to Care Toolkit

The toolkit is coproduced with care experienced young people, and is targeted at businesses, local authorities and support organisations, to give an insight into the issues facing care experienced young people looking for work. It gives ideas on how to care experienced young people before and during the recruitment process, and when they are in employment.

Leicestershire Cares’ ideas for the Care Review

Through our engagement with the Review and our work with care experienced young people, we have developed five specific asks that we have submitted to the reviews’ Call for Ideas.
