Altogether Now welcomed Annie Britton as Project Delivery Officer and we are currently recruiting for a project youth worker to strengthen the capacity to deliver accross Leicester and Leicestershire.
Altogether Now is a new project launched in September 2023 to work with young people with disabilities and/or mental health conditions.
17% of school students are registered as being part of this group of people, (UK Government statistics, https://explore-education-statistics.service.gov.uk/find-statistics/special-educational-needs-in-england ) and particularly in the current economic and post-covid environment, they can become isolated from broader society through a lack of educational, training and work opportunities.
Altogether Now aims to help redress the balance for these young people and you can help! By offering work tours to aid understanding of the world of work and getting a taste of the range of options available, to work experience or placement opportunities, to a possible training or employment opportunity, businesses can make a real difference, enabling a young person to build their confidence and take the next steps to a happy and productive life.
If you would like to support this work, or if you are a person who would like to access the service, please contact annie@leicestershirecares.co.uk
Successes:
We have successfully linked with Ellesmere College and have so far took part in an interview skills day with 2 volunteers and we are set to deliver at their careers day with 4 volunteers.
We are currently developing a relationship between Saladworks and Ellesmere which we hope will give SEND young people an insught into careers with food and food production.
Annie has been connecting with local stakeholders such as Connexions and Leicester College which will kickstart referrals for our 1-1 support.
Upcoming:
Annie will be out and about meeting a number of local SEND provisions with a view to linking them up with local business members - she will also be out undertaking engagement with Leicestershire County Council Inclusion, Memphys SEND Hub and the Local offer Roadshow.
