Who Donated the Coats?
The Watches of Switzerland Group is an international luxury watch and jewellery retailer with 223 showrooms globally and head offices in Leicester, UK, and Florida, US. At the Watches of Switzerland Group, they are passionate about supporting the communities in which they operate. It is a vital cornerstone of their culture, based on their ingrained caring spirit and dedication to giving back. The Group has long been committed to philanthropic endeavour, building strong partnerships with charities like ours. Partnering with local business networks in Leicester, the charity ensured the delivery of high-quality, weatherproof coats, tailored to withstand the challenges of winter.
“We have partnered with Leicestershire Cares for many years now and prioritised this initiative as no one should go without a coat in the Winter. It’s a simple act of kindness and just one example of how our colleagues at the Watches of Switzerland Group care for our communities. We are also pleased to share that the Watches of Switzerland Group Foundation will be donating £25,000 to Leicestershire Cares this year to support their great work.” Philippa Jackson, Executive Director of HR at the Watches of Switzerland Group.
The Outcome of the Delivery
The coats were distributed at the shelter during a community event, which also featured warm meals, health check-ups, and workshops for shelter residents. The event created a sense of community and provided an opportunity for individuals to access much-needed resources.
Shelter staff reported an overwhelming sense of gratitude from recipients. "For many here, this donation is more than just a coat—it's a lifeline," said shelter manager Sarah Jenkins. "It means protection from the cold, dignity, and a reminder that people care."
The Impact on the Homeless Community
The donation has already made a tangible difference. With temperatures dropping to near-freezing, many recipients shared how the coats have allowed them to stay warm while navigating life on the streets. One resident, Tom, expressed, "Having a coat that is warm and fits well makes me feel like I can face the world again."
“It is great to see what can happen when local businesses and community connect and am looking forward to building on this a partnership” Neetu Squire Head of Community Development Leicestershire Cares.
What’s Next?
The success of this initiative has sparked discussions about further collaborations between Leicestershire’s homeless shelters and organisations. Plans are already underway to expand similar efforts, focusing on footwear and thermal clothing.
This donation is a powerful reminder of the impact that collective goodwill can achieve, bridging borders to support some of society's most vulnerable individuals.
