SB joined LC with the objective of increasing her confidence in employability and job searching. Prior to engaging with LC, she lacked self-assurance regarding employment opportunities and struggled with motivation.
SB’s journey commenced with an initial appointment, during which her needs were assessed, and key areas of support were identified. She expressed a strong interest in working with animals but was uncertain about the specific career paths available within animal care. The session focused on exploring her aspirations and outlining potential employment and educational opportunities that aligned with her interests.
A key priority in SB’s development was CV creation, as she had no prior knowledge of its purpose or structure. A structured CV session was conducted, providing step-by-step guidance on the function of a CV, its key components, and how to tailor it for job applications. By the end of the session, SB had successfully created her own CV and developed a clear understanding of how to present her skills and experience effectively.
To further clarify her career aspirations, a career exploration session was facilitated, introducing various roles within the animal care sector. Through this process, SB identified a strong interest in veterinary work. Previously uncertain about her career direction, she gained clarity and enthusiasm for pursuing a future in this field.
To enhance her practical experience, SB secured a voluntary position at Gorse Hill Farm, gaining hands on experience working with animals. This opportunity allowed her to develop practical skills, strengthen her CV, and build confidence in a professional setting. The experience proved to be highly beneficial and reinforced her passion for the field.
In addition to employability support, SB required assistance with her academic coursework. To facilitate her studies, a collaboration with Reaching People resulted in SB receiving a laptop. This enabled her to complete assignments more efficiently, further supporting her academic progress.
To enhance job readiness, mock interview sessions were introduced, incorporating the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). As this was SB’s first experience with mock interviews, initial confidence levels were low. However, through structured guidance and practice, she demonstrated significant improvement in articulating her responses and engaging effectively in interview scenarios
Significant progress has been observed throughout SB’s engagement with LC SB continues to actively pursue employment opportunities while remaining committed to her education. Her journey demonstrates the impact
