H.S was referred to Leicestershire Cares for ETE support as a participant on the Phoenix programme. During the initial assessment, it became clear that H.S was keen to enrol on a course and work in order to improve his life outcomes and to support his mother and his siblings.
H.S engaged in a goal setting where we identified that he would like to engage in a CSCS course. During the course of the session, H.S shared that he would like to save money when he commenced work. He also stated that he took taxis to most destinations. The importance of exploring walking or utilising the bus for longer distances was also explained. H.S advised that he often did not know which bus to take, and he was taught how to use google maps in the session.
H.S attended a C.V session where he learned about the correct way to format a C.V and the correct information and wording to use in a professional C.V. During the session, H.S was able to correctly identify areas of amendment on a poorly formatted C.V which was provided for demonstration purposes. H.S also received an explanation on the importance of writing more formally when crafting a C.V.
H.S expressed that he was keen to get into the construction industry. An application was duly submitted to Portland Training. Prior to the commencement of the CSCS course, H.S. was encouraged to complete two online mock induction tests which he did promptly. We received an update from Portland Training confirming that H.S attended his online CSCS course. H.S also expressed interest in the railway sector, so we completed an application with Leicester College to help secure a place on their railway programme.
H.S also participated in an interview preparation session where we explored the right way to answer interview questions. H.S was encouraged to think about his previous work experience and the transferable skills learned. H.S was also encouraged to dress smartly, make good eye contact, and ask questions at the end of an interview. We will now focus on exploring employment opportunities with H.S.
